Keep Your Brain Sharp:         Keeping our minds sharp doesn’t have to be difficult or time-consuming. In fact, all it takes is five minutes a day writing with a non-dominant hand.

Scientists discovered that using your non-dominant hand could have significant benefits to brain health. Ongoing regular practice creates new neural pathways in the brain, which helps keep your brain nimble and more in tune with your body. It also helps prevent other signs of aging, such as general forgetfulness or even degenerative diseases like dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Researchers found that just 200 minutes of total practice led to a significant bump in cognitive function for both short-term and long-term brain health. In other words, if you were to write with your non-dominant hand for just five minutes every day, you could potentially see these same huge improvements in under a month a half. (Published in the academic journal Neuropsychology.)

Surprising Ways to Lower Food Costs:
Higher and lower shelves at supermarkets, in addition to back-of-store shelves, often contain lower-priced products – more expensive products are placed at eye levels and in the front.

Exercise Away Your Anxiety:
Participants in a 12-week exercise program that included a 60-minute training strength session, and/or aerobic exercises three times a week, reported having milder anxiety. Most participants reported having gone from moderate or high level of anxiety to a lower level. Those who did moderate exercises were three times as likely to report fewer and less severe symptoms of anxiety.

Yogurt Helps Manage Blood Pressure:

People with high blood pressure who ate a daily serving of yogurt had an average blood pressure reading seven points lower than people who never ate yogurt. Yogurt is high is calcium, magnesium and potassium – all of which help regulate blood pressure and contains bacteria that produces proteins that have blood-pressure-lowering effects.  Best: Yogurt that contains live cultures and is low in sugar. (Published in International Dairy Journal, Alexandra Wade, PhD.)
