Pass Up That Second Cookie: To pass up that second cookie or piece of cake you should make a fist. Sounds strange, but it works! For an instant hit of willpower, clench your fist (either one is fine). A study published in the Journal of Consumer Research found that tightening your muscles when faced with temptation can help reinforce your self-control. Note: It only works in the moment.
Mushrooms Lower Cancer Risk: Eating 18 grams of mushrooms daily (less than one-quarter cup) was associated with a 45% lower risk for cancer. Mushrooms are high in cell-protecting vitamins and antioxidants, including the especially protective amino acid ergothioneine. All mushrooms are high in these antioxidants but shiitake, oyster and maitake have the most. (John Richie, PhD, professor of public health sciences and pharmacology at Penn State Cancer Institute.)
Drinking Water Improves Cognitive Performance: Every cell in your body needs water to stay alive. When cells don’t get enough water, they don’t function as well and neither do you. Physically, dehydration puts a strain on your body; your heart rate increases and your body temperature rises. At the same time your endurance while performing physical tasks declines. Studies have found that dehydration affects both your mood and ability to think. It has been found to reduce both short-term and long-term memory and focus.
Bath-Time Wine: Instead of throwing away wine that is past its prime, add it to your bath. Wine is a natural skin softener that is rich in polyphenols, which help combat free radicals and slow down the aging process. Don’t look good in red? Fear not, cabs or merlot won’t dye your skin or stain your tub. Not convinced? Use white wine instead – it has the same antioxidant and hydrating benefits. - Take a look back at what you’ve achieved and how you’ve evolved.
- Did you accomplish and follow through with your goals?
- If not, ask yourself what got in your way? Did excuses stop you?
Your mind is the force behind the marvelous success system within you.
Listen and trust the wisdom of your inner voice (not the voice of skeptics); then ask yourself what major differences do you foresee for the new year?
Think about December 31st as an opportunity to stand on the brink of something new and exciting!
The key to success lies in your particular manner of thinking: When you change your thinking you change your life. Be the greatest version of who you are.
