Did You Know?

Smelling Roses Increases Calmness:
You’ve always heard that it’s powerfully positive to "stop and smell the roses." Now science proves how right that is! Pause to take a whiff of these fragrant beauties, and you’ll feel soothing relaxation sweep over you within 60 seconds, according to research out of Japan. Aromatic compounds (citronellol and geraniol) that give roses their distinctive scent increase activity in the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for helping your body and mind truly relax.

Eat Almonds to Shrink your Waistline:
Trimming stubborn belly fat can be a challenge. Luckily, Purdue University scientists have found a tasty way to whittle your middle. They say snacking on a handful of raw almonds daily helps folks drop more than twice as much weight — especially from the midsection — than those who eat the same number of calories but no almonds. Healthy fats, such as nuts, fire up your body’s fat-burning mechanisms.

Sleep More Soundly:
Nuts and seeds can help you sleep better.  Do you wake up in the night with that "gotta go" feeling? Eating 1/2 cup of almonds a day can cut your middle-of-the-night bathroom visits in half, improving sleep quality by 55 percent, UCLA scientists say. The magnesium relaxes bladder muscles, preventing spasms.

Both almonds and walnuts may also boost the quality of one’s sleep. They are a source of the hormone melatonin, which regulates your internal clock and signals your body to prepare for sleep.

These nuts, as well as pumpkin seeds, are also an excellent source of magnesium, providing 19% of your daily needs in only one ounce. Consuming adequate amounts of magnesium helps improve sleep quality, especially for those who have insomnia.

Magnesium’s role in promoting sleep is thought to be related to its ability to reduce inflammation. Additionally, it may help reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which is known to interrupt sleep. Therefore, if you’re having trouble catching those Zzzs at night, eating nuts or pumpkin seeds before bed may do the trick. (Women’s World Magazine May 2021)

Letter from the Executive Director

Hi Everyone,

It’s not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves." ~ George Malory

Everyone has a story. It’s how we feed the story that may perpetuate other stories, or change its meaning entirely.

I’m reminded of this legend:

A Native American grandfather was talking to his grandson about how he felt about a certain tragedy that had taken place on the reservation.  He said, "I feel I have two wolves fighting in my heart.  One is a vengeful, angry, violent one and the other is loving and compassionate."  The grandson asked, "Which one will win the fight in your heart?"  The grandfather replied, "The one I feed."

By holding yourself accountable on how you choose to respond, you activate the powerful force of your mind so it will work for you, not against you

Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.  Always be kind.  ~Robin Williams

Inspirational 'Happy Hour'
(Virtual)

Tuesday September 21st from 6:00pm - 7:00pm (PST)

Topic:

"Chakra Balancing for Health and Vitality"

Presenter: Mousqa Katawazi

Have you ever felt like you were out of sorts and didn’t know why?  Perhaps your Chakras were out of balance.

Join us for this fun-filled, informative and interactive evening with our presenter Mousqa Katawazi as she teaches you how to balance your Chakras to optimize your health and vitality.

Throughout history many cultures and Shamans have prescribed the balancing of the chakras as a way to maintain optimal health. Chakra is a Sanskrit word, dating back to 1500 BCE, meaning "wheel." The function of our chakras is to receive, store, balance, and distribute vital energy and wellness.

Mousqa, has always been fascinated by the world unseen. The chakras and their influence are one aspect of that world unseen, having a dramatic positive impact on our health and well-being.

Please join us at our Inspirational ‘Happy’ Hour, Tuesday September 21st, from 6:00pm - 7:00pm (PST).  My intention for having these events is to bring community of like-minded and like-hearted people together.

(Log in at least 10-minutes earlier so we all can say Hi and perhaps make new connections.)

Invite friends and spread the abundance.
