Did You Know?

Reduce Blood Pressure with Hibiscus:
A recent study found that drinking eight ounces of hibiscus tea three times a day for six weeks reduced test participants' systolic (top number) blood pressure by an average of seven points—about as much as with standard hypertension drugs. People with higher blood pressure had an even larger drop. Pure (unbleached) hibiscus tea can be found on the Internet or in health food stores. Note: This does not mean you shouldn’t be seen by a physician. (Diane L. McKay, PhD., USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging, Tufts University Boston.)

Blue and Yellow Toys are More Fun for Dogs:
Blue and yellow are vivid colors for dogs, whose color vision is more limited than that of humans. A red toy thrown onto green grass may be difficult for a dog to retrieve, but a yellow one will stand out. (TuffsYourDog.com)

Clear Sinuses by Humming a Happy Tune:
The vibration you feel along the roof of your mouth and in your nasal cavity and sinuses when you hum can clear sinuses no matter the cause of congestion. By humming, the gas exchange (swapping stale, damp, infected air for fresh air) between the nasal passage and sinuses can be as high as 98% during one exhalation. By contrast, the gas exchange rate during normal exhalation is only about 5%. Poor gas exchange and poor circulation in the sinus cavities can promote bacterial growth and infection.  Therefore, hum several times a day and watch for improvement. (Natural Solutions Magazine)

Remove Pills from Sweaters:
Take an ordinary two-sided cleaning sponge and gently run the abrasive side against the sweater. Pills be gone!!!

Letter from the Executive Director

Hi Everyone,

2020 is not the year to get everything you want. This is the year to appreciate everything you have.

As we are nearing the end of 2020…the year we will all remember. Think back, can you actually recall the first two months of this year? Perhaps there are some memories of significant events, but that’s it. Yet once our world changed, we all changed…We had to let go of old patterns and had to create differently. This year 2020 will go down in history.

It is important to reflect on this past year and acknowledge how resilient and open to change you actually are. Appreciate what you’ve learned and how you’ve grown, even through the struggles and adversities.

Acknowledge your inner strength and the power that comes from knowing you have the resources needed to handle whatever comes your way.

Now is the time to look ahead to the New Year with renewed optimism and the resolve to make each day better than the last.

Remember, it’s not what happens to us but our response to what happens that makes the difference in the quality of our lives.

Life is our teacher, and every adversity can be a gift.

Let kindness be contagious…

To Your Success,

Marla Brucker, DCH, R.H.A.
