Did You Know?
Foods that Help You Get Better Sleep: Tart cherry juice contains the sleep hormone melatonin. Kiwifruit has serotonin, which can help promote sleep. Whole-grain crackers have carbs that can help sleep by raising serotonin levels. Fatty fish contain vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids–also important for serotonin regulations. Hummus is made from chickpeas which are high in sleep-promoting tryptophan. Also helpful for sleep: Increased fiber intake…avoiding excess fat at dinnertime…consuming less saturated fat at any time…eating meals at regular times, if possible (this is especially important for
breakfast)…having a protein- and fiber-rich snack two to four hours before bedtime.
Leg Cramp Relief: Stay hydrated! Drinking water throughout the day helps muscles contract and relax more easily. Stretch leg muscles before going to sleep. Do light exercise before bed, such as walking around while brushing your teeth. If you wake up at night with leg cramps or after exercising put a spoon right on the cramp (stainless steel or sterling works fine). Hold it there for a minute or so. Another Cramp Remedy: Pinch the area between your nose and upper lip until the cramp is gone. It usually takes a few seconds. Use this remedy when you don’t have a piece of silverware handy! (Authors Joan and Lydia Wilen – "Doctor-Approved Folk Remedies That Work")
Cure Hiccups with Three Breaths: First, take the deepest breath you can and hold it for 10 seconds. Second, without exhaling, breathe in again and hold for five more seconds. Third, take in a little air and hold it for another five seconds. Then breathe, normally. This exercise calms the diaphragm, helping to stop the spasms that cause hiccups. Hi Everyone,
"Each small act of kindness reverberates across great distances and spans of time affecting lives unknown to the one whose generous spirit was the source of this good echo…" ~ Dean Koontz
We’ve all heard of the Butterfly Effect; something as tiny as the fluttering of a butterfly's wing can have a large consequence; a small event in one area of the world can have a substantial effect somewhere else. As a result, by incorporating tiny acts of kindness into our everyday lives we create a ripple effect which can be felt years from now and from far away.
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, let’s start now. This is the time for us to pause and reflect on what we are grateful for, not only the major things but little things as well. When we truly feel a sense of gratitude, then we can experience the true essence of happiness. Share that happiness by reaching out to others; by offering a helping hand, a warm hug, words of kindness, or even a genuine smile…by doing so you will be creating the Butterfly Effect.
I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.
To Your Success,

Project Honduras - Using Hypnosis to Improve Lives
By: Jessica Hodge, student
Last month I was on a mission team that served two small villages near Tegucigalpa, Honduras. We provided medical and dental services, dispensed medicines, and performed some repairs at the local school, but most importantly we gave our love and encouragement.
I did not know in what capacity I would help, except that I would assist wherever I was needed. On the first day of serving in a little village, I knew exactly where I could help the most. I saw a line of crying and anxious patients waiting their turn with the dentist. Instantly, I felt at ease using the different techniques I learned from my hypnotherapy training. I guided them into deep breathing and relaxation, followed by guided hypnosis. I found this especially effective with the children. Tapping (EFT) was useful with a lot of the women. The highlight for me was helping a young woman in active
labor at the public hospital. I gently spoke positive suggestions (NLP), while I tapped for her. As we both breathed, she smiled at me.
My time in Honduras was an amazing experience. I came to serve in whatever capacity; little did I know that my training in hypnotherapy would become an integral part of the medical and dental brigade. I am forever grateful for the skills I have gained at the Motivational Institute of Hypnotherapy and I look forward to the opportunity to help more people here and abroad.
