Did You Know?

Frozen Grapes Make a Refreshing Snack That Curb Candy Cravings:

Frozen grapes are a natural healthy food choice that contains potassium, pectin and vitamin C. The best part is they’re a cinch to prepare! Here's all you need to do: Pull the grapes from their stems. Wash and pat dry with a paper towel. Place on a cookie sheet and freeze. Frozen grapes are like mini popsicles without the artificial ingredients! You can even use them as ice cubes in your drinks, wine or cocktails to help fancy things up without watering them down. Enjoy!

Sniffing Lavender for Anxiety:

Lavender may be as effective as taking a drug. In a recent study, the scent of lavender induced an anti-anxiety response similar to that of an anti-anxiety medication. (Hideki Kashiwadani, PhD, Physiologist and neuroscientist at Kagoshima University, Japan.)

Saffron May be an Alternative to Ritalin:

Surprisingly, Saffron helped children and teens that don’t respond to medication commonly used to treat ADD and ADHD. In a preliminary short-term study of patients ages 6 to 17, the herb, which was given in a 20 mg to 30 mg capsule, was as effective at controlling symptoms as Ritalin. Saffron also has antidepressant and memory-enhancing properties, which may be beneficial to those not diagnosed with ADD or ADHD. (Study at Tehran University of Medical Sciences.)

Surprising Ways to Clean Antiques:

Cola: Removes stains from glazed china. Ketchup: Cleans copper. Salt with lemon juice or vinegar: Polishes metal. Toothpaste: Polishes silver and cleans faces of ceramic dolls. White vinegar and warm water: Cleans mahogany furniture (mix in equal parts). Fresh coffee grounds: Removes the musty smell from a bureau dresser.

Testimonials

"The program was truly inspiring and was a positive journey of learning and walking through fears and doubts. I also liked the guest trainers who were brought in to share with the class their techniques. There was a strong balance between practical application and class discussion. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."  ~ R.J. Smith (Loan Officer)

"I want to thank you for such a wonderful training. It has changed my life. Your support and guidance has also helped me let go of limiting beliefs and realize greater personal and professional successes."  ~ Michael S.  PhD.

Letter from the Executive Director

Hi Everyone,

"Each smallest act of kindness reverberates across great distances and spans of time affecting lives unknown to the one who’s generous spirit was the source of this good echo…"  ~ Dean Koontz

We’ve all heard of the Butterfly Effect; something as tiny as the fluttering of a butterfly's wing can have a large consequence; a small event in one area of the world can have a substantial effect somewhere else. As a result, by incorporating tiny acts of kindness into our everyday lives we create a ripple effect which can be felt years from now, and from far away.

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, let’s start now. This is the time for us to pause and reflect on what we are grateful for, not only the major things but little things as well. When we truly feel a sense of gratitude, then we experience the true essence of happiness. Share that happiness by reaching out to others, by offering a helping hand, a warm hug, words of kindness, or even a genuine smile. In doing so, you will create the Butterfly Effect.

I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.
