Did You Know?

Mosquitoes Like Red:
Mosquitoes locate humans to bite partly by zeroing in on the carbon dioxide we exhale, but they are also drawn to the colors we wear. Recent findings show that a common mosquito species is attracted to red, orange, black, and teal, but ignores green, purple, blue, and white. While changing your wardrobe may help deflect bites somewhat, all human skin, regardless of pigmentation, emits a red-orange signal.

Female Dragonflies Fake Death to Avoid Sex:
Some female Aeshna Juncea dragonflies fall from the sky and lie motionless and upside-down on the ground when they are not receptive to mating. They remain in that position until the pursuing male leaves. Then the female quickly flies away.

To Sleep Better – Try Aloe Vera:
A succulent plant on your nightstand releases oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide from the air around the bed. By boosting nighttime oxygen levels, you may increase the time you spend in restorative, slow-wave sleep.

Lower Risk of Falls with Rosemary Oil:
Misting your pillow with rosemary water before bed may help lower your risk of a next-day fall. Several studies support the theory: one found that aromatherapy improved cognitive function, and rosemary may have a neuroprotective effect and could also help with some types of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Cognitive decline is linked to an increased risk of falling; therefore, protecting your brain health is important.

To try this yourself, add 4 drops of rosemary essential oil to a mister bottle filled with water and spritz. Bonus: Spritz your scalp, too, as it may boost hair growth. (Research published in Frontiers in Neuroscience.)

Inspirational Quotes

When we willingly accept compliments, we are reminded that others see us through different eyes.

"It never hurts to see the good in one another; they often act the better because of it."  ~ Nelson Mandela

"Remember, there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end." ~ Scott Adams

"If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse." ~ Rudy Mawer

Testimonials

"Marla provides unique and comprehensive knowledge across many aspects of Hypnotherapy. Her courses are not only more affordable than other Hypnotherapy courses but also much more applicable to clients' general needs. Marla teaches you life-changing techniques and modalities at a reasonable pace. She makes herself available to all of her students (which is rare these days). Overall, I would say the experience is well worth it because it is an investment in yourself, and she is such a joy to work with as an instructor. I highly recommend getting certified through the MIOH. You won't regret it." ~ Chris F.

Letter from the Executive Director

Hi Everyone,

"A stranger is a friend you haven't met yet." ~ Sol Fineblum

While visiting their son's school, his parents noticed a brightly colored bench in the yard. Curious, they asked if it was the only place to sit. The son said, "No, that's the Friendship Bench. When someone is lonely or can't find a game partner, they'll sit there, and others invite them to play."

His parents thought it was a great idea and asked whether he had used it. He said, "Yes, at the beginning of the year when I was new at the school. I sat there, and another student invited me to play with him. That made me happy. And now, when I see someone sitting there, I invite them to play."

What a great idea for shared kindness to be implemented across all playgrounds, schools, and other settings. Sometimes people just need someone to sit with them and let them know they are not alone.

There is no such thing as a small act of kindness…every act creates a ripple with no end. ~ Scott Adams
