Yogurt May Reduce Heart Disease Risk: Eating yogurt may help reduce the risk of heart disease in individuals with high blood pressure. Men who consumed at least two servings of yogurt per week had a 21% lower risk of experiencing a heart attack or stroke. Rick was cut by 17% for women. The reason is unknown, but yogurt-fermented probiotics may play a role. (Lynn L. Moore, DSc, MPH, Director of nutrition and metabolism at Boston University School of Medicine.)
Drink Two Cups of Hibiscus Tea Daily: The hibiscus plant is a significant source of antioxidants. Hibiscus tea tops the ranking for antioxidant power, even beating Macha (a drink made from powder green tea leaves), according to NutritionFacts.org. Hibiscus tea also lowers cholesterol and blood pressure, according to a randomized controlled trial reported in the Journal of Human Hypertension. At the end of the trial, 21% of participants had normalized their blood pressure.
Dig Into A Blueberry Parfait: The key here (to preventing memory lapses) is the fresh fruit! Eating blueberries revs up recall in people who are more likely to develop dementia, according to a study published in the journal Nutrients. The findings suggest that consuming ½ cup of blueberries daily lowers the risk of memory loss, due to anthocyanidins and procyanidins — two powerful plant compounds that enhance brain cell signaling and reduce inflammation that can lead to memory
impairments.
Sharpen Focus by Brushing Your Hair: Feeling foggy? Do something out of the ordinary by brushing your hair with your least dominant hand. Changing even small parts of your daily routine encourages the brain to churn out more of a focus-enhancing chemical called acetylcholine, which sharpens concentration by 45% in 60 seconds.
