Just 13 Minutes of Meditation Provides Benefits: Eight weeks of practicing meditation of 13 minutes daily improved mood, memory and attention…and decreased anxiety.
Music Boosts Health: Besides lifting mood, multiple studies find that singing, playing an instrument and/or listening to music has physical benefits – especially for cardiovascular health. Similar to meditation, music stimulates the vagus nerve, which runs from the brain to the stomach, promoting relaxation response and benefiting the heart by dampening inflammation. Listening to music also has been found to improve heart rate variability, the circulatory system’s ability to respond rapidly to changes in the body, as well as lower stress hormone
levels and blood pressure. Exercising while listening to music helps increase endurance, distance and duration.
Pay Less For Gas: Fill up early in the week – many gas stations raise prices on Thursday afternoons in anticipation of people taking weekend trips. Buy fuel at warehouse clubs which typically sell gas for less than the cost at nearby gas stations. Pay with the right credit card, one that gives you cash back for fuel purchases.
Eating Cake Can Lead to Weight Gain: Eating a lot of calories too close to bedtime as melatonin levels rise (the body’s signal to go to sleep) is linked with weight gain based on your individual circadian
rhythm. Rule of thumb: Aim to finish dinner at least three hours before your bed time. (Andrew McHill, PhD, researcher: published in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.)
